Trent received his BA in Middle East Studies at the University of Utah (1998) with a specialization in the Arabic language. He continued his studies in Arabic at the American University in Cairo’s CASA program (1999), and subsequently worked for an Egyptian contracting company in Cairo before returning to Washington DC. Since then he has held several jobs in the language and technology field with the US government, including the State Department (FSI), and Dept of Homeland Security (TSA) before joining the CASL (Center for Advanced Study of Language) team at the University of Maryland. His research interests include advanced language learning, Arabic dialectology, and language and technology. He is rated at the ‘superior’ level on the ACTFL scale in Modern Standard Arabic and the Egyptian dialect, with experience in other dialects (Gulf, Levantine). Skilled in developing and designing multimedia learning technologies, he is currently pursuing a MIM (Master in Information Management) degree at the University of Maryland.
